Wednesday/Thursday/ Friday October 21 22 & 23rd, 2009
I have been very lax on my blog this week, it seems once we get visitors I can’t seem to find the time to sit! Let me see if my memory will be good to me so I can remember what has happened in the past 3 days!
We woke up Wednesday morning to rain, rain and more rain. It would slow down for a bit then come down hard, then slow down, come down hard, it did this most of the early morning and afternoon and early evening. We think of course it was the aftermath of hurricane Rick, I can’t remember when the last time was that we woke up to rain and it didn’t stop. We were really concerned with Tara coming in that day because there is not a lot worse than going on vacation and it raining while you are there! Even though the rainy season is just about over, Rick kinda screwed up the weather a little bit. It was so good to see Tara, once we got to Vallarta the rain stopped for a while, we haven’t seen her since just before we left Edmonton on the 2nd of July. She looks wonderful!
She hasn’t seen the inside of our house so it was fun for her to come into it for the first time. We got her settled and went out to meet up with Deb and Ron (our new friends) at Karen’s Place for supper but when we got there, I’m assuming because of the rain, they were closed so we went to the closest restaurant, Mark’s, (which we have been told by the locals “Don’t go there it’s way too expensive” ) and of course they were right. Wine was $10.00 a glass (my fault entirely, I didn’t check the price) and supper was ok but nothing great at it came out to over 1,000 pesos for 3 of us. To top it all off Ross put 2 500’s and another 100 in the receipt holder and the waiter came back and said we only put in 1 500.00 peso bill, not 2. What can you do? None of us actually watched Ross put in 2 500’s but still, when things are that expensive you are careful on how much money you pay with. Oh well, lesson learned, we won’t go there again.
However, Tara took us to a restaurant last night on the beach in Bucerias that was fantastic! The food was great, Tara and I shared a plate of different kind of Mexican food and Ross has some ribs that he really liked, the waiters and the owner were very personable and they even gave us their recipe for verde salsa that we were eating, does anyone know where to find dried chicken blood??? The restaurant is quite large and has those wonderful Mexican blankets as tablecloths, we will be back. Monday is shrimp and fish night, Wednesday is BBQ meat night (I think all you can eat) and Friday is Mexican night.
Tara and I drove to Vallarta yesterday to get her nails done and we got pedicures too. I warned her that it takes 2 hours for gel nails, but of course she didn’t believe me until 2 hours later we were done! They are very slow but soooooooooo good. Too bad that nails grow because every 2 or 3 weeks your back for the same length of time. Ross read on the blog that a new nail place is opening up across the street from Sandrina’s (where we went for Canadian Thanksgiving) which is not far from the office and they are advertising as a spa, so of course, that’s the next place I want to try. As much as I love where I go it takes an hour to drive there and back, we won’t even mention again that you are sitting there for 2 hours. Mike, a friend of ours, picked up Ross and took him to his house in La Cruz around 3ish so after we got our nails done we needed to go there to pick up Ross. We stopped first in Bucerias to pick up a couple of bottles of wine then stopped at the ocean as Tara still hadn’t seen it since she got here. I had only been to Mike’s house once and Ross did the driving so Tara and I went to go get lost. Surprising we didn’t, I drove right there, fancy that. We stayed for a while then went to Claudio’s for supper because we needed to get back in time (8:30pm) for our dog whisperer appointment.
Pam, Ross’s sister in France bought an hour of this lady’s time and she claims to be able to communicate with animals and she can let us know what they think (that is about the best I can explain it http://www.healingheartstrings.com/) As you know that Bandit is 15 years old and we think he is about ready to check out of this world and will continue onto rainbow bridge. He had stopped eating and won’t move much because of his arthritis. We actually went to a vet here and he has given us a couple of pills (for free) they are pain medication and an inflammatory that will make him, according the vet, want to run and jump, but don’t let him! Lori said that Bandit told her that he got some medication from us and he feels much better. You just don’t know!
I am so excited; I got Pam’s wedding invitation today. It is beautiful. I had to call her to touch base to see how everyone is doing. Pam is working way too hard and trying to get her education (through correspondence) finished! Wow that girl is way too busy!
Tara went to Sayulita today to learn how to surf! She met some guys on the airplane and they called her to ask if she wanted to go surfing with them. They knew she didn’t know how so they taught her today. How wonderful. They brought her home just now, we don’t know what we are going to do tonight, Tara had pizza earlier and we of course had ribs with some very good friends for a buy one lunch get one free in Vallarta. Ross, I think now, looks like a rib (he ate his, some of mine and some of other peoples, cause he is a pig).
I now have to go and look through, are you ready for this, an AVON catalog! I was letting the dogs out last night and an older lady showed me her catalog’s she is coming back tomorrow for an order! Only in Mexico! Of course you have to know that this lady does not understand English and of course I don’t understand Spanish. She came to my house talking a mile a minute in Spanish knowing I have no idea what she is saying! I love Mexico.
Ross, Tara and Kim
In Paradise!
