All I can say is WOW! We just got back from Vallarta where we saw the show Avatar in 3D. The last time I watched anything in 3D was probably 20+ years ago! The technology sure has gotten better when I wasn’t looking! What a great show, we went to Plaza Caracol but the only show was in Spanish so we rushed to the Galleria Mall to the other cinemas and found it starting (in English and 3 D) at 3:20, Hurray! We went to the department store (Liverpool) to look around for some shoes for the wedding then met up in the TV department and shuffled off to (you thought I was gonna say Buffalo, didn’t you???) the movie theatre. Well, you should never let Ross put his own butter on the popcorn, that’s what this theatre does and he ended up with at least 1” of butter in the bottom of his LARGE popcorn bucket…..he even suggested he put too much on. We were told by Jennifer to make sure we didn’t drink much so we wouldn’t have to go pee during the movie (3 hours) because you won’t want to, well she was right, you don’t want to get out of your seat as James Cameron has surpassed himself, this movie is phenomenal. The last movie he did was Titanic and apparently this movie has surpassed the money they received from that show.
Other than us going to the movie not much happened today. We did try to buy some greeting card software at Office Depot and Office Max, but no such luck. I think I might have to ask someone to bring something down for me. Because all the cards are in Spanish I have been printing off my own cards to mail out for birthdays but all the software I have only has a couple a program and if I’m gonna do this I need lots to choose from (I needed to add –in-law to Jessie’s birthday card before I could send it out! I think I might ask Stephanie to pick a disk up for me from Future shop or somewhere, so I have a choice.
Actually tomorrow is the time (the 1st of every month) I give the critters their flea and tick medication, but when I was in Vallarta I stopped to get the cats theirs, (Wallyworld doesn’t have any for cats) so I gave them all their stuff, except of course for Sunshine, who is still living on the roof. I will have to get him eventually, I always do. We sat up on the Bucerias weather station as we have been seeing lightning. But all that is happening is fireworks from the De Cameron and a bit of lightning out to the east, in the mountains.
Tomorrow Francisco finishes painting our front and will start on the other little things we need done. Ross is driving to Guayabitos to pick up Bruce and Bernice; they are coming to visit one more time before they leave in a week or so! They will stay in the motor home Monday night and we will hang with them Tuesday once we are back from the office (we have a meeting at 9:30).
We are watching a very strange movie; it’s all about prisoners of war in Vietnam dealing with living in a prisoner camp and trying to find a way out (it’s called Rescue Dawn). It is 23 here, 21 in Cancun, 0 in Greenville and -11 in Edmonton (at this time 9:40 Central time), we are so looking forward to Cancun in 2 weeks, we leave the 17th of February. I have my dress, shoes, Ross’s stuff, we are ready to go.
Adios from Paradise

Thursday, Friday and Saturday, January 28th, 29th & 30th, 2010
January is almost over, where did it go? As of the 31st Ross and I have been retired for 1 year, wow, it’s a good thing we don’t work anymore as we wouldn’t have time now, go figure!
Another great day in paradise (it’s Saturday morning (11:55am), we are watching an ice fishing show (I asked Ross why and he said “cause it’s on”, you can’t argue with that logic!) and glad we are not there. Ross said we are to have a thunderstorm, maybe, tomorrow, that’s ok as long as my roof paint is dry.
Handyman was here today, he now has finished one of the back walls, it sure looks better than just white, homier you might say! I had bought a plant called “Jesus plant”, it’s a vine that climbs the outside walls and looks pretty. It has little suction cups that cling to the wall. Well, when Francisco painted the outside wall he had to take my plant down; it had only just started to cling now I have to start it all over again! It took me a good 2 weeks to coax it to cling; now I have to start all over again! Oh well, if that’s my big problem today, I will just have to live with it.
We went to Crazy Nelly’s Thursday night and rocked the house down, as per usual. Gosh, they are a great band! Bruce, Bernice, Jo and friends came so I had some people to sit with, hurrah! I was sitting outside reading when all of a sudden I had hands around my throat, it’s a good thing they were friendly. We had a great time, Bruce and Bernice were the only ones left with me when the music stopped. Oh yeah, a van stopped out in front and it carried a Mexican trio band that was enjoying the music too. They came up and sang a couple of famous songs (I think they were Elvis songs) in Spanish, it was so cool!
Yesterday we slept in (of course) we didn’t get home until after 1, then we drove to Wallyworld to get some more paint for the walls, roof and the right paint for our bars (which we didn’t get cause they didn’t have any, we are going today to a paint store here in Bucerias). Handyman’s friend finished painting the roof with the waterproof paint (maybe my roof won’t leak now, on second thought it better not as we have spent a fair amount of money for cement, paint and labour so it won’t) at least we think he finished as we had to leave early to go to Ana Banana’s for Ross’s gig, so we left them working. Handyman was painting part of the outside wall (which really isn’t ours as they have zero lot lines) so it looks better when you drive up. We don’t know whether or not they are coming today, Ross can’t remember if they said they were coming today or if it was the other day, so we’ll just wait and see. I hope so as I really want the front finished so I can move some plants up there to make it look prettier. I want to see if we can get the scooters in the back yard so they don’t take up the whole front.
Don’t know what we are going to do today, other than buy paint. We might go into Vallarta to see Avatar, I did warn Ross that when we do go, I’m going to look for sandals for the wedding. I do have a pair of silver sandals, but they are so old they look old, so rats, I guess I have to go shoe shopping, it’s a rough life! I guess we will wait until after 3:30 (when handyman has been coming) to go just in case he is coming, I’d hate for him to walk all the way over here and we aren’t home. I think the times for the movie is 1, 3, 5 and 7 so we can go to the 5 o’clock show, and have popcorn for supper!
I have been having a problem with coughing a lot and a sore throat, so I went online to see what the problem might be. I found out I most likely have post nasal drip and guess what, the nose drops they recommend I have already. My doctor had prescribed them for me a while ago as I was always having a stuffy nose; the website also said that people that have asthma are likely to have this problem. I have 2 bottles of it, so it’ll be a while before I try to get them here without a prescription, as so far all of the stuff we take we can get over the counter! I haven’t tried my Thyroid pills yet though, I still have some left.
Well I guess that’s it for now, I think I have everyone up to speed with what we are up to in Paradise. We are now watching crocodiles fighting in a swamp and eating god knows what! I think I need to go to shower and do laundry (it is after all Saturday, and Saturday is clean sheets on the bed day, hurray!) so Adios to everyone and I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday January 25th, 26th & 27th, 2010
Where does the time go? Is it because I’m old?!?!?!?!?
I’m just gonna ramble, not too concerned about the day we did things, mostly cause I can’t remember. Just because Ross said this on the phone just now, on Monday night we were invited to the yacht club to see a jazz trio, Tom Coster, on keyboards (he plays with Carlos Santana) and the bass player and drummer are from a very good band in Mexico City. I don’t normally like jazz but boy were they good. Tom Coster stays in Paradise Village while he is here and he plays for free, he says since he doesn’t charge he can play anything he wants!
We went to Wal-Mart and got some gold and rust paint to paint the outside of our house, Francisco and a couple of his buddies are almost done, we just drove to Wal-Mart today to pick up some black paint for our bars, we weren’t quite sure what we bought (no one was at the paint counter) it said something about metálico so we figured it would work, which we found out it’s ok. We now need to buy another one (we just bought a small one). We also got an ice cream cone, which we had to eat fast cause it was melting, it’s really hot here today (29)!
I tried to download some pictures on my blog the other day and all that got posted was the description of the file, no photos!!! I think maybe because I’m using Windows 7 (it’s a funky program), I normally use my little pink xp computer but, wait till I shed a few tears…….……….ok I’m better now…….NOT (I love that little computer, to download my pictures, for that matter write my blog, so I’ll have to wait until I get another computer in order to post pictures. I found out the other day that the hard drive is still intact so that is good news, I just need to take it somewhere for someone to copy the info I need onto a disk, mostly pictures.
I went to the office all by myself yesterday, Ross was going to play a gig in Guayabitos for a surprise birthday party that night so he said, he needed to sleep in, but he always says that! Not much happened there I’m afraid, I couldn’t get the internet up either, so I played solitaire when I wasn’t talking to people, that was kinda boring. After I locked up, I drove home then Ross loaded the car up and off he went. I was going to go with him, but I hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before and I thought a night in would do me good.
Not much happening today, I got my nails done and made another appointment a day before we leave for the wedding, so they look fresh. Francisco is here now, with his wife and son, they are taking him to the doctor tonight at 6:30 so they decided to come here then go from here to the doctor’s office rather than going all the way home to pick them up. Ross had his meeting to go to, so I’m gonna stay home and putz.
Hope everyone has a great day, talk to you soon!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday January 22nd, 23rd & 24th, 2010
I didn’t realize it has been so long since I updated everybody! Friday was a good day, we thought that Francisco and company were going to be here around noon, so we just kinda putzed, they never did show up! Ross went to his meeting then once he came home we drove to Wal-Mart to pick out paint colours for the front of our very white house, but they didn’t have anyone to mix the paint that late, which was ok cause we changed our minds about the colour. We drove to Korsario’s for dinner then decided to drive to Centro where Bucerias Gardens is (a bar in the heart of town) to listen to the band and see if we can get Ross’s band in there to play, wow it would be cool to play in your own town! There was a very good band there, Ross sat in for a few songs and the owner is going to come down to Ana Banana’s, where Juan-Ted is playing on Friday to listen to them. If he likes them, he will have them play every Wednesday! Yahoooooooo, more money in our pocket!
Saturday was hard to wake up, Friday was a late night. Ross’s band is playing in Lo de Marcos (a small town around ½ hour away) for their Amigos Lo de Marcos party. They played in the square and were a big hit. They started at 5, then had to stop for an hour as they had church services outside by the square for an hour and they told them they would have to stop, we hope that’s not going to happen in a couple of weeks when they go back there to play for their fund raiser party. They played; I think until 9 or 10, their tips were more than they got paid. They all got paid 500 pesos and the tips almost totaled 2,000 pesos divided by 3 is more than 600 pesos, they made off great! The weather was about perfect, they sky was blue with no clouds and in the evening there was a nice breeze off the ocean.
Today, Sunday we decided we were going to go to the movie, Avatar, but the only theater that had any listings was the one in the Soriana mall and theirs was only in Spanish. We ended up going to Up in the Air with George Clooney; it was ok, but nothing great. We stopped at the Galleria mall to see why they don’t have any of their movies in the internet, apparently, they changed their computer system and they are having problems with it, it doesn’t matter where you are, computers rule! Avatar is on at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 (I think) so we are going to have to try to get there, everyone is saying it is a must see movie. We left Francisco and workers at the house to work on the cement for the roof and when we got back they were still here! They were just finishing up, wow, they are good workers, it looks so good, and they even made a little swirly swirl with the concrete!
I called Stacy to ask him his advice on what walls to paint with what colour as he has a good eye, he said that what we wanted will work, so off to the paint store to buy paint as Francisco will be back at 3:30 to start the painting. Stacy wasn’t feeling very well when we talked, it seems that Cami and Jessie also got the bug that he has. We can hardly wait until the house is painted, our house looks so blah! Ross cooked pork chops the dinner tonight and I made stovetop stuffing (I bought it for a bit of comfort food) and Knorr noodles. It was great, but after cooking I really wasn’t hungry (I hate it when that happens) so I ate a bit and Ross ate the rest.
It’s 20 minutes to nine so I think we will put corrie street on to watch a bit before hitting the sack. I still have laundry in the dryer so I will wait until that is done before going into the bedroom.
So without further ado, Adios for today and hope everyone has a great week!

Thursday January 21st, 2010
Well, I was right, we did absolutely nothing last night except for watching TV! Ross made some popcorn and I think I had cheeses for supper, we kinda nibbled all night. I think (I didn’t check the time) we went to bed earlier than normal as we had to get up early to drive Sue and Harold to our volunteering duty as both their vehicles are in the shop and their shift was earlier than ours.
Ross got me up, I thought, way earlier than we needed to be, but oh well, we were on our second cup of coffee when Ross phoned Harold to let him know that his taxi would be at their house in 45 minutes, he asked why, Ross said “to get you to Cardenas for trash pickup”, Harold says, “why we don’t start until 11:45”, oops we got up way too early. Harold actually phoned later to let us know that the truck came back so they didn’t need to be picked up. (on a side note it is 6pm now and Ross has been snoozing for more than an hour now as he has to go to Nelly’s tonight, I’m gonna go with him, do I have a nap, nooooooooooo, but then he will say, you could have!)
We had a great time picking up recyclables for our first ever “Taste of Riveria Nayarit” (just like the taste of Edmonton). We met a lot of friends there; we are still amazed on how many people we know here, we think way more here than in Edmonton, and we both were born and raised there! We sat and chatted, walked around and chatted, emptied the recycle containers into plastic bags and put in the trailer to take to the recycle lot to be sorted and shipped, ate lots of goodies, nothing was over 30 pesos. I had a couple of cold Pacifico’s while walking and talking, all in all, a grand time! Just as we were leaving we were introduced to a man by the name of Jim (he was on the next shift) and we found out he used to be a drummer, but now just plays percussion. We were right by his house so he opened the door and we saw his house, all I can say is wow! All chrome and glass, beautiful furnishings (they have to be very wealthy), we saw his collection of drums, Ross played with them for a bit, and we all agreed we have to get together to do some playing!
Ross drove to Nelly’s by himself tonight, I think I’m going to go every second week, and I had a pleasant evening watching some TV, I read some and had a long chat with Pam. She had a bridal shower at work today and she had a great time. For presents she got a lot of money (yeah!) and a few other goodies. She is almost ready for the wedding, dresses are delivered and fitted, and she only has 1 more fitting of her dress.
Well I think that’s it for now, I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday January 18th, 19th and 20th 2010
Wow, it’s been a while since I last updated my blog, lotsa stuff happening I guess, or I’m too lazy, nah, that can’t be it, we have a lot of stuff happening!
Monday afternoon Ross drove to Guayabitos to pick up Bruce and Bernice for a visit to our neck of paradise. They have been coming here for years and only went from the airport to Guayabitos back to the airport again, no travelling around the countryside. Once they got here Bernice and I had a glass of wine, and Bernice brought out 4 red and white wine coasters she made me and also a very Mexican looking tea light holder, that was so sweet of her. We all drove to Paradise Village in Nuevo after that so Ross and Bruce could attend a meeting while we two girls shopped. I don’t remember buying anything, but we sure looked!
Once Ross and Bruce were done we drove back to Bucerias to go to dinner at Meson Bay for all you can eat shrimp and fish. We were quite upset when we had to wait forever for Ross’s second helping and it was only 5 or 6 shrimps! We are used to so much better portions and quality of food from there but Monday night they were slow, the food was not up to par and at the end the messed up our bill and ended up giving us 3 different amounts we were to pay, thankfully they got cheaper and cheaper! Not a good rep for having new patrons there, we will go back as we are sure it was just an off night!
We left Meson bay and walked to the square to see the carnival for the festivities of the day. There was dancing in the square with very colourful costumes, and lots of vendors selling anything from booze to ice cream to jewelry to games of chance! I even got a cotton candy, but was told if I ate it my teeth would turn pink (of course the cotton candy was pink, a very, very, very bright pink) so I just had a taste, and let the kids at home have a taste, it is definitely different than up north! We got home and sat and chatted for a while before we all went to bed to have a very welcome sleep, we were all tired!
We got up early on Tuesday morning, Bruce and Bernice cause they always do and us cause Ross needed to be at the office at 9, I stayed at home to keep Bruce and Bernice company. When Ross got home we drove to the marina and had a very good lunch with 2X1 margaritas!!! There sure are lots of big boats there, some you just look at and go ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I want that one, and that one and that one………………..!!! We then drove to the market to look around, not much there anyone wanted, so we stopped into a little shop on the Malecon to pick up Jordan’s birthday present, it’s not quite what I wanted but I think it will be ok. We stopped off at Wal-Mart before coming home to pick up the luggage so Bernice could shop at the new fabric shop that just opened up and we needed to pick up a couple of things, one included popcorn for Ross but they didn’t have any.
We picked up their luggage and drove them back to Guayabitos then turning around to drive home. Before coming home we stopped off at Mega to look for popcorn, they didn’t have any, then we went to pick up my watch from the repair place, it wasn’t ready yet and we stopped at the new Chinese food kiosk to try their food and they just closed, boy did we bat a thousand! We came home to veg, watch TV then went to bed!
This morning we had to get up early as we picked up Mackenzie (John and Christie’s daughter, that speaks Spanish fluently) to help us get our water paid for the year (433 pesos) and put in our name along with putting our power in our name also. The power company was a breeze, I had everything they needed but the water company wasn’t as easy! We got there at 9:30 Jalisco time but the lady that looks after the contracts in the office was on Nayarit time so we drove to the municipal office to pay our taxes and they line up was very long. We decided to do that another day so we went to a restaurant on the beach and had breakfast. The tide was so high that a couple of them almost came up to our table and our table was the second row in from the ocean! We met a very nice kitty there, and gave him a little off our plates, he loved to nibble at Ross’s and Mackenzie’s hands to play.
We drove back to the water office and found we had everything we needed but I needed to make a copy of our floor plan of the house, the paid bill and a picture of the cross streets of our house. A lady at the office told us where there was a copy office (they have a lot here, they want copies of everything!), we found it but their copier was not working, and then next place same thing and the next place the same thing….. we ended up going to a copy shop on the lateral to get it done. Back to the water office and we had to wait in line until she was free, she gathered up all our stuff then told us to pay a bit more money for the name change, so back in line we went to pay, then back in line to give her the receipt. Yeah! Its done.
It’s only 2pm now but I thought I’d better get this typed before I forgot everything we did; Ross went with Larry (our friend with the new mustang) to Costco, just to ride in his car and I’m gonna see why my printer doesn’t want to scan.
I hope everyone has a great day!
Ross Kim and Critters in Paradise
Sunday January 17th, 2010
We had a fabulous time last night; Larry makes very, very good margaritas! I am going to steal Ross’s description of the mariachi band from facebook! “Wahoo! A 9 piece, count 'em, NINE PIECE Mariachi band. 4 violins, bass guitar, guitar, treble guitar (?) and 2 trumpets! About 6 of the guys sang and they rocked the house down for almost 2 hours! What a great party! We started out with nachos with guacamole and salsa, then came the arrachera, chicken, macaroni salad, lettuce salad and a fruit salad (that I made that hardly anyone ate, I won’t do that again!). A good time was had by all!
After a difficult wake up period (when is it ever not difficult, maybe if you are travelling somewhere!) and two cups of coffee we showered, well I showered first, I went to cut Ross’s hair before his shower and somehow the comb that you attach to the razor that measures how much hair is cut broke.
When we were all ready we walked over to the orphanage for their bazaar and most of the stuff was clothes. We drove to Paradise Village to pick up a wedding present for Pam then we tried to find the new Wal-Mart (I tried to type the name of the town but I don’t know the spelling) a small town east of PV, but couldn’t find it, so we drove to Costco and picked up a few things then to Office Depot for some new file folders (not very exciting), then we drove home. We got home around 6, and then Ross drove to Mega to stock up on water, and found some guacamole for the nachos we found in Costco, and then stopped off to drop off our recycle. We are going to have a quiet night in tonight, so I’ll say bye for now and hope everyone had a great weekend!

Yeah, I found my problem; something was not underlined on the blog website so I couldn’t copy and paste! I really didn’t really want to type right into the blog window, cause of spelling errors and stuff; I don’t want anyone to know how badly I type.
I woke up at 7:30 this morning, we have our PEACE table at Mega from 9 – 1, didn’t get much sleep last night, I don’t know what’s going on with me, I fall asleep great, within 10 minutes of hitting the sheets, but wake up a couple of hours later and am awake for a few hours before I can go back to sleep. I got to mega at 9 and helped Sue and Harold set up the table, tent and banner, we have the puppy that Gail rescued and two cats from the same cat lady that I got Yoda from. All were happily adopted by; hopefully, good families and we tore down shortly after noon.
After getting home, Ross and I drove to Centro to do a bit of shopping, then I drove to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things, when I got home Ed was here looking at Betsy, the engine light was on and we just didn’t know what was going on. She is fine, she is getting a tune up next week, and maybe we will take off for a few days south!
While we were in Centro eating at Meson Bay (great food), sue called asking if we want to go to Larry and Lorena’s house for a good bye party for Gail and her hubby, I am bringing a fruit salad to the event. Don’t tell anyone but they have planned a Mariachi band for 8pm, we haven’t seen a great Mariachi band since Stacy’s wedding in Costa Rica, we are excited.
We are to be there at 6, it’s now 5:54 so I guess I better get going!

Thursday & Friday January 14th & 15th, 2010
Well, how is everyone today (I know its Friday, I’m late for my blog), hope everyone is doing absolutely great!
We woke up feeling ok; Ross was better than last night, still a bit on the fuzzy side, but a lot better than we thought he would be. We are expecting Ed (or mechanic) to come to scope out the engine on Betsy, her check engine light is on, and expecting handyman (hopefully today) to come.
Francisco got her at 3:30, when he was supposed to be, Ross and him went out to by some lexan for our bottom half of our front door. They got back, Ross went back to bed and Francisco got our front door fixed. He looked at my door frame for the bathroom off the bedroom and we have termites, he pulled the doorframe out and I could see where they ate away at our wood, neat, I have never had termites before. Francisco has a friend that works in wood so he is going to build me another frame (termite proof wood) for 500 pesos. He also drilled the holes in the floor for our safe and will have to wait until Ross buys a couple of anchors to hold them in. We also had him order some sand and cement for the roof.
We left at 7 to go to Nellys, we are to meet Bruce, Bernice and Jo there and hopefully Mel and Chantal will show up on their way back from Mazatlan. We pulled up at the same time Bruce and company got out of their cab and we all sat and had a wonderful dinner of ribs. Ross played for most of the 1st set, then had Jimmy (Ralph’s brother) play for the balance of the 1st set, Ross still wasn’t feeling that great. Just after the end of the 2nd set Bruce and company left and who shows up, Chantal, Mel and Carson, the rest stayed in the van and slept! We had a great time, dancing and talking and once they band was done, they helped Ross take his drums upstairs and then we all left, Mel, Chantal and Carson to their hotel room and us, home to bed!
We slept until 11 until the dogs started barking up a storm and went running out to the back of the yard, I went to find out what the commotion was, it was the guys with the sand and the cement. I love having dogs for a doorbell, since we don’t have one. I started coffee and we finally got rolling. Ross went out to get the anchors for the safe holes and I putzed on the computer. Handyman got here again at 3:30 (two days in a row is great!) got the safe in, but as it rained cats and dogs (gatos and perros) last night it was too wet for him to start on our roof. I asked him to fix my rope lights I have on my back walls and he tried to put them up so they look good, but we need some parts which he is going to pick some up for me for tomorrow.
At 6:35 we realized the time and we ran out of the house for Ross to get to his meeting and for me to see if the Sunset Market (a grocery store in the mall that Ross’s meetings are held) had some crock flip flops. As my foot still isn’t doing well, I am wearing flip flops all the time (my foot is still swollen to wear other sandals) and I need some arch support. I couldn’t find any; I bought some other ones that I think are ok because they hurt my foot when I step in them, so that means it is hitting my arch!
We stopped off at Korsario’s for supper, they are closing at the end of the month, and sales aren’t keeping up with rent. We both ordered a hamburger and fries; I got my free shot of tequila and Ross called Harold and Sue to see if they wanted to come join us. Harold wasn’t in but Sue and her friend Alex (he is a paramedic that Sue and Harold has adopted as their son. We all had a nice chat then they walked back to Sue’s and we got home, I walked the dogs then right to my blog! Yeah!
Well that’s it for today; we need to watch the rest of Corrie Street so that is done before we record this Sunday’s.

Wednesday January 13th, 2010
It’s not Friday, which is a good thing since it is the 13th………………….A little funny for a Wednesday, for everyone that is still working and wishing it was Friday (even if it is the 13th). 18 more days and we will have been retired for 1 year!!! It seems like yesterday!
We got up around 10 and tried to get going early as Handyman is supposed to be here at 3:30 to start getting some stuff done around here. As we sold our 20’ trailer that we used to move down here with we have some extra cash to fix up the old joint! We need some lexan to replace the bottom screen in our front door that our dogs ripped, we need the roof fixed because of the stuck float we had on our tinaco and it gave us a pool up on top (not wise), we need the ceiling scrapped and painted (from our earlier tinaco problem), we need out safe bolted to the floor (more to come about the safe shortly) and we would like to paint the outside of our house. We can’t decide between some really pretty rust colour with a sand colour, or purple and sand colour (guess who wants the purple, I guess it’s better than the red). We want to paint the two walls that have the windows a neat colour and the extra wall a sandy colour and we are thinking about painting the bars black. If we decide soon we will have Francisco to do it!
We bought our safe used and have had it in the office for a couple of months now waiting to get it bolted to the floor. I tried to close the door of it about a week ago and the bars were stuck out and wouldn’t go in to close the door, so Ross got on the phone with Sentury Safe and she was soooooooooooooo helpful. She must have stayed on the line for a good 20 minutes or so, we finally got it working by Ross banging on the top and side of the door (the solenoid needed jarring) and then putting in our code. She wouldn’t let us off the phone until we opened it at least 5 times (she kept calling Ross “honey” or “baby” so cute) she is sending us a new solenoid (to Mexico) for free, all this for a used safe not under warranty, will definitely buy another if the need arises!
We drove to Home Depot to pick up some Lexan for our door, we couldn’t find it anywhere and the customer service centre was really busy, so we will have Francisco get it for us in Bucerias, but we did get a tool box, a shelf for the kitchen and a couple of other things. We drove to Wal-Mart for some of my prescription drugs, some hangers for Bruce and Bernice (they didn’t get any in their room), and some cat food, then drove over to Mega as my watch was to be ready yesterday, it will be ready on Monday! Don’t ya love Mexico!!!
When we were waiting for Francisco to come over Harold called asking if we had plans for dinner after 7, we said no, so at about 6:45 we drove over to their house met up with them and Gail and her hubby and we drove to San Jose to California Pizza. Wow, one great Pizza, we really need him to have a restaurant (or a hole in the wall we don’t care) in Bucerias!

Once we got home Ross went onto the computer for a bit and all of a sudden he got really cold, he wrapped up in a blanket, was still cold so he went to bed, with 2 very fuzzy blankets! In kept all my fuzzy blankets. He is now in bed, I’m getting my blog done and I think I will join him; it is, after all, 11pm. But I am watching HGTV and Holmes on Homes! I love that guy, I think he really cares.
I did call Francisco and he said that his wife was sick so he couldn’t come over and he will be at our house at 3:30 tomorrow! He could have called, but again, he is Mexican and they just don’t think of doing that?!?!?!?!? We don’t understand, but we are not Mexican, this is just how they are.
We are looking forward to going to Crazy Nelly’s tomorrow night as Bruce, Bernice and I think Jo will be coming to enjoy the music. Oh, I can hardly stand it, Bernice brought me some Q-Tips………………we can’t find them here, so I’m so excited, I used them this morning, it is really surprising on what you get used to!
Well Adios from Paradise

Tuesday January 12th, 2010
I learned something new today, it is not warm outside unless you can wear flip flops outside and not be cold!
Up early today, but had a really good meeting with a solar panel company at La Fronda with John and Christie and the gang. They have 2 products that they talked about today, a film that goes over the inside of your windows to minimize the heat that comes into your house (we might buy that) and of course solar panels to minimize your power consumption. I didn’t get much sleep last night and was feeling really fuzzy this morning but wow I was impressed with this company.
We left at 11:15 to get back to the office, we let Mackenzie go home, Ross stayed at the office and I went for a quick nail fill, Mackenzie said the walking traffic was great while she was at the office, it sure died down, and we got one lead.
After being home for a bit we drove to the airport to pick up Bruce, his wife Bernice and Bruce’s sister Jo. We don’t have enough room for 3 people and their luggage in our Sunfire so we asked Sue and Harold to help us. They donate their time and gas to drive people from the airport to their hotels, a donation goes to charity for payment. Since they are our friends we drove to Guayabitos with Harold and Sue, Bruce and Bernice drove with Ross and Jo, Harold, Sue and I went in Sue and Harold’s SUV. We beat Ross by at least 5 minutes, we are not quite sure how, they were ahead of us and we stopped at Oxxo for pop before leaving Bucerias.
If you drove past this hotel you wouldn’t know it was there, it’s so cool, you drive in to a very skinny driveway and there is a hotel in the back. It looks quite cute, Bruce’s sister Jo stays there every year (for the past 9 years) and knew everyone by the pool. We went for dinner with Bruce and Bernice in the restaurant that is connected to their hotel, great food!
We drove home to watch a bit of American Idol, and we are now watching Discovery Channel, which, I believe, is an hour long program, on Nabors drilling rig 99 in BC! I don’t recognize any of the employees yet, I’m hoping to recognize at least one name! Its 9:29 pm here (10:29 Edmonton time) and it is kinda cool to see my old employer on Discovery Channel!
We have lots of going on tomorrow and Thursday (I can’t tell you know, then you wouldn’t read my next two blogs, so stay toned and we’ll talk to you soon.

As I was coming back from walking the dogs last night I saw Ross drive away (about 6:45) knowing we got the call that our friends are at the Oxxo and they are waiting for us to meet them to come visit. It was so nice to see them, back in Edmonton we would see them maybe, maybe, once a year, it has been two years since we saw them last. They own property on an island just outside Mazatlan for a couple of years now, hopefully to be down here full time this year.
Wow, we had 6 people (Mel, Chantal and their daughter Melanie, 2 friends and a landlord (we won’t talk about her)) descend on us instantly. It was so nice to see our friends, they took a look at our house, just got settled and Ross goes “Let’s go to Ana Banana’s to see a friend of ours play”, so everyone dropped what they were doing and climbed into our car and the van and off to La Cruz we went. We had a great time dancing, Ross had some Ribs for supper (probably the 3re or 4th this week) we had a couple of plates of nachos. Ross played for almost one set; once the band was done it was really neat that Barry the owner of Ana Banana’s shook Ross’s hand and thanked him for playing and saying that he is the best drummer in the bay, that was a great compliment to Ross.
Once we got home we decided that everyone should stay here instead of finding a motel, so we had people in Betsy, our patio and on our couch in our front room! We (me) got up at about 9:30 (everyone else was up) had coffee and Chantal mixed potatoes, onions, eggs and cheese in a frying pan and we had a great breakfast. Lily got there around 12 to finish cleaning and we left around 3 to go to the beach for a bit before they drove to PV and farther south. We had a great time; Ross, Melanie and Chantal were mostly in the water, playing with the boogie boards or just playing in the water. Once everyone had their fill of water, the gang took off south and Ross and I got home, I took the doggies for a walk and we left for Ross’s meeting, I sat in Starbucks and read a book, once the meeting was over we drove to Riveria for supper and then home for some peace and quiet!
We are chillin’ right now, Ross watching a show on TLC and me, catching up with the blog! We are soon off to bed so I’m gonna say goodnite for now…………….talk to you mañana!

Sunday January 10th, 2010
We got an e-mail yesterday from our friends that live in Tofield, that winter in Mazatlan (they are building a house there) that they will be in PV and can we meet up. With friends you don’t need any warning, just come on over, we’ll have fun! They actually decided to stay in Tepic last night so we are meeting them today at our Oxxo between 4 and 6, it’s 5:57 now, and they are mostly always not on time so we are not surprised to be still sitting here watching TV.
Ross went to the office for a couple of hours, as I got my computer back from Ralph, he borrowed my other one cause his was pooched, I took a lot of stuff of this computer (my little pink one, it doesn’t have as much memory as my HP) and I am trying to print my 2009 Journal and my printer just doesn’t want to print it if I am low on any colour of ink. Which is stupid as the whole print job is in black! Oh well, when I invent a printer I will fix that little problem.
Not much happening today, as you noticed, we are trying to decide on where to go for dinner since our friends have not shown up yet. We are going to wait until 7 then go to see Jenn at the Riveria Restaurant!
So that’s it for today, adios from Paradise

Saturday January 9th, 2010
We woke up in Paradise this morning, but way too early! The alarm rang at 7:30am for our breakfast meeting at Ixta for the Amigos de Bucerias. Today was a special day as Ross had been nominated for president this year, we assumed he wouldn’t win, but he sure gave it the collage try! John was the only one on the executive committee that had anyone running against him, so the other 3 were a shoe in and Ross came in second, which isn’t bad, except there were only 2 running, but it was still really good! We are hoping to contribute a lot to the area this year and he will run next year. Bucerias is having something very similar to the taste of Edmonton at the end of January, called the taste of Riveria Nayarit. Restaurants will have tables set up with tastes of their wares for no more than 30 pesos. We have volunteered for a 2 hour stint cleaning up the area while things are going on. They are also going to have chalk art too, I’ll take a lot of pictures, and they may look like the ones we see on the internet, we are really excited about this. Last night at Ernesto’s we told our sweet friend Jennifer about it and she will be calling to see if they have any more room for her restaurant in Nuevo!
After our meeting we got home, I changed and tackled getting the rest of the Christmas decorations away. Lily got here at 1:30, Ross was snoozing as he is playing tonight so I didn’t get my bathroom cleaned, but, Mackenzie called for Lily (an emergency) so she is coming back Monday to finish, so yeah, my bathroom will be clean! I hate cleaning bathrooms! I really wanted a clean house today, but as I was getting my Christmas stuff packed I was also re-arranging all my stuff and cleaning as I go so I really did some cleaning today anyway. The house actually looks really good, to me anyway and that’s all that counts as Ross never notices anything!!! I re-arranged our outside sitting area so that all Ross’s music stuff that doesn’t fit into our 2nd bedroom (do you think…he needs to get organized) is now in the shed, which I re-arranged so we actually had more room in it (I was busy today)! It looks so good now, so does my kitchen, don’t look anywhere else, actually I cleaned off the tops of my buffet and china cabinet so they don’t look messy and put one of my plants on top of the buffet so it looks cozy!, at least I think so. Lily and I got our tacky Christmas lights down from the front of our house, I left a few, they are not tacky! At least to me!!!
Ross got up (finally, boy is he lazy (ok not really), yeah ok really, but I do love him to death (ok let’s not say THAT! Let’s get back to the topic OK), he got up and washed the car, he is going to Sayulita tonight and he is picking up Mike (a good friend of ours) to go tonight, I was going to stay at home (I’m beat) but I found out that Sue and Harold might be going, so I called them and if they go I will hitch a ride.
I’m gonna go now, it’s only 6:30 but if I don’t go to Sayulita tonight with Sue and Harold I’m going to go to bed at, I don’t know, 9??? I had no sleep last night, from Ross and just not being able to sleep and then Yoda, what can I say, he is a baby so he finds so many noisy things to play with during the night, rocks, something that sounded like tin foil???

Friday January 8th, 2010
Today is national water your street day, there will be a big parade with fireworks and they have declared it a holiday. Well, no not really, but it sure seems like it, everywhere we have driven today they are watering the road. Now in the dry season as we have sand/dirt roads they water the street in front of their houses so it keeps the dust down, but it just seems that today it’s different somehow. Maybe not, maybe both Ross and I have gone crazy! Whatever!
I had a doctor’s appointment at noon so I woke up at 10, had some coffee, tried to look at my e-mails, but couldn’t as we are having internet problems, so I had my shower and left the house at twenty to 12 to get to the other side of Centro Bucerias where the doctor’s office is. I introduced myself and told him my husband Ross and I are down here full time so we would be seeing him, he said hopefully not too often. He was really nice and spoke very good English after 5 minutes I paid him 200 pesos and got a prescription for some cream that cost me 30 pesos (approx. $20.00 total). After stopping off at the Pharmacia and Beto’s (for wine) I got home just in time to leave to go to Korsario’s for another meet and greet before the big election tomorrow morning. No one showed up, but Harold and Rita stopped by to keep us company and Ross got an order of fries (the restaurant might close at the end of the month, not enough patrons and too high of rent), Ross says they are the best in Bucerias!
At 3 we packed ourselves up to come home to get our swim suits on, Lisa and Wayne live on the north side of Bucerias and just got their pool finished and they had a pool party for our AA friends. It was too cold to get all the way in but Lisa and I put our feet in. We had great munchies of deviled eggs, that wonderful 7 layer dip with tortillas and cheesies……., we left at 5 to come home to get ready for the meeting and after we all went to Ernesto’s in Jarraderris (sp??) between PV and Nuevo for the best ever ribs. I feel so sorry for them, the restaurant is at their house and there must have been 25 of us? Maybe? All the food is made fresh, some people had tortilla soup, some had nachos with cheese on top and most of us had the ribs!
It’s now 10pm and we need to get up in the morning, early, for our breakfast meeting and the “Big election” I’ll let you know all about it tomorrow!

Tuesday & Wednesday January 5th & 6th, 2010
Hi all, great to see you again! Well not really…….but ya know, it sounds good!
We got to the office at 9 and we really didn’t have as many people walking past as we normally do, don’t know why. 2 couples came to look at the suite across the street that had come last Tuesday when Ross was off showing another house. They are not in the market right now but are sure they will in the next couple of years. We actually got 2 other leads too, again people not looking now, but they love Bucerias and will be actively looking in a few years. We seem to be getting a lot of that, but that’s ok, just as long as they keep our cards! The one client Ross had is on hold, I guess, she will call us (?) when she’s ready.
We did a lot of nothing yesterday after our office gig; we putzed in the house for a bit then made some great spaghetti with garlic toast then left to go to Britannia for a while. Tuesdays is open mike so we got to see a lot of people we know, and a lot we don’t.
Wednesday is a sad day……..it’s the day I start packing up my Christmas decorations. I went into the shed to get the one box I left in there and I couldn’t believe my eyes. We had piled stuff in there so much that I had to take most of it out to get to my box, so you know what is coming now…..I hauled almost all the stuff out of the shed and started to go through it, Ross had hauled his dad’s audio rack to Mexico and we had a whole bunch of stuff on it and behind it so I got all the stuff out from behind it and put it right against the back of the shed wall, started putting stuff on it, Ross leaned on it and broke the one and only shelf. Off to the garbage it went and I dismantled the shelving unit we bought for the pool stuff and put it in the shed. Sure gave us a lot more room. I packed up my Christmas village, my buffet looks so bare now!
We drove back to La Cruz to pack up Ross’s drums he had left there, we need to consolidate Ross’s music stuff, we have bits and pieces everywhere! We had some of Britannia’s famous Fish and chips then drove home to do more packing up. By the time we got back home it was too dark to do anything outside so I just put everything back in the shed that I still hadn’t found a home for and will continue tomorrow. I was just getting to type my blog and it was 9pm, we were invited to John and Christie’s for a bonfire on the beach, so I closed up the computer, grabbed a blanket, 2 dogs, Ross got 2 chairs and off we went to the other end of Bucerias (5 min drive) to the Forget’s house. There was a wonderful fire on the beach so we sat down and visited with them, their kids, people walking by…………..We got home shortly after midnight and we find out this morning that at 2 am a mama turtle wondered up and dug a hole to lay her eggs. We have seen this once before, amazing, and we were pretty upset that we left so early, in hind sight of course.
That’s about it, another couple of days in Paradise!

Sunday & Monday January 3rd & 4th, 2010
We are lying low, neither one of us is feeling great, don’t know what it is, head feels heavy, no get up and go, we both just feel like sleeping. Ross drove to the office in the afternoon, just in case anyone was interested in looking at properties, he came home after a couple of hours and did say he got a lead.
We did however go out to dinner last night with Dick and Mary Carmen. Dick called to let us know there was a restaurant in PV that closed and re- opened again in Nuevo Vallarta called The No Name Bar and Grill, they are claiming the best ribs in town, and did we want to join them, so of course we had to try them out. Dick picked us up and we drove to Nuevo (about 15 minutes south of us) and found it right away, it is in a brand new office complex close to Paradise Village on the second floor. There were a few cars parked outside, a prowler was one, wow, I can’t remember what state the license plate was from but it sure was pretty.
We went up the escalator and got a table outside on the patio, the waiters came right away and when both Mary Carmen and I ordered a glass of wine, he came back and suggested a bottle as this would be a better deal, so we ordered the bottle of Merlot (it was very good) and dick had a Sprite and Ross a Limeade. (It sure is funny how a lot of our couple friends the guys don’t drink but the women do???) Both Ross and Dick ordered the full rack of ribs and I ordered a half only, Mary Carmen does not eat much pork so she ordered a Hawaiian burger. It took forever for our meal to come but wow! The full rack of ribs overloaded the dinner plate on both ends, I wish I took a picture, none of us have seen anything remotely like it. My half rack filled the plate, we also got potatoes and veggies and someone ordered a plate of French fries, I have never seen either Ross or Dick take any food home from dinner but they both asked for take away boxes! Guess what we are having for dinner tonight!
Ross was already up when I surfaced this morning around 11 :30, it’s so nice to be able to sleep in when you aren’t feeling well instead of having to get up to go to work! The show Criminal Minds was on and it was the second part of the one where Garcia was shot, which was really nice as I had never seen that one yet. So we watched that, Ross showered and got dressed as he was to pick up his clients to see the bungalow they saw yesterday again. What a sad time it was when Ross drove up not long after he left, they were not at the hotel and they were walking around, she said her husband did not want to see the house today and basically don’t call us, we’ll call you. Both Ross and the other realtor were angry, that is not how you treat people! They should have called to cancel at least!!!
Ross went to lay down and after my shower I drove to the lateral to visit the vet to get some flea and tick medication for two of the cats (we have lots for the dogs but only 1 dose left for the cats, Wal-Mart only carried the ones for the dogs). It cost me 593 pesos so 2 doses and some heartworm medication for the dogs. I’m going to have to have someone bring it down for me from Edmonton as it’s not as expensive there!
Bruce and his lovely wife Bernice are flying in on the 12th and will be staying in Guayabitos for a month! We are going to pick them up from the airport here in PV and will drive them to their hotel, probably after having them visit our house first! Bruce is in Ross’s Beaumont group and he was the one that kept asking Ross for a band for his camping group, which of course Ross did, and everyone had a great time!
The weather has been really wonky here lately, lots of rain (which according to everyone it just doesn’t happen in dry season) we are having lots of cloudy days too. Not good for the tourists, they must be pissed that they spend a lot of money to come somewhere warm and it’s not sunny all the time. It is still warm, its 27 right now, but cloudy with a bit of a cool wind blowing. Great for us as it is a reprieve from the sun, ya I know, I’m not going to get any sympathy, and I don’t want any, I’m just telling it like it is.
We just got back from Wal-Mart; Ross took some of his drugs in to get refills (we can’t find his sleepy pills but got everything else) and I picked up some Pepsi. We are looking for some orajel (don’t know if I spelled it right), Ross burnt his bottom lip on the boat and it is really hurting him, but can’t seem to find it. We stopped in at Mega and the Pharmacia also no sleepy pills and no orajel.
I’m sitting here looking at my Christmas stuff too, need to start putting it away for another year. I don’t want to though, I’d like to keep it up all year round, but then it wouldn’t be special, so I won’t.
Ross doesn’t know whether or not he is going to be going to his meeting tonight, he is feeling really crappy. I think we will lay low again tonight and see if we can get a good night’s sleep tonight as its office duty tomorrow!
So I’m gonna say bye for now, hope everyone had a good Monday and we’ll be talking to you real soon!

Saturday January 2nd, 2010
Well, what an unproductive day! I think the only thing I got accomplished today was 2 loads of laundry. We got up around 10, we had coffee, had showers, then Ross went to pick up his clients to show them a couple of places. Then they stopped off here! I wasn’t expecting that……..it’s a good thing I tidied up a bit, she wanted to see what you could get on this side of the highway! We think she will put in an offer on the bungalow, we have our fingers crossed.
When Ross got back we had a siesta until around 6, I made a turkey sandwich for supper (Ross will have the best hamburger in Sayulita when he goes there for the gig) and Ross had a couple of bites, says he has to have one later, boy was it good, a bit of cranberry sauce and a lot of turkey.
I have been watching some TV doing some stuff on the computer and basically putzing. I’m still not feeling right; I’m tired and just plain bagged. Oh well, best to be doing this in Mexico where at least you’re not freezing to death!
I think that’s it for today……..I’m watching TV waiting for Ross to get home (it’s 11:41pm).

Pictures Gracie, Shadow, Jake with Yoda, the blue dress and the olive green dress.
January 1st, 2010
Feliz Año Nuevo!
Wow what a way to bring in the New Year, there were fireworks, balloons, noisemakers, hats………………..I think mine is on the floor of the car! Crazy Nellys was great, I brought Yoda with me to keep me company and he did a great job, the only problem was, he kept inside his little house when the band was playing. I put a sweater around the outside of the cat carrier to soften the noise, I guess it worked.

Everyone warned us about driving the 200 on New Year’s Eve (it is normally crazy, so I guess it is crazier than normal) and to top it all off we had a blue moon! So let me get this straight, 1) the policia in their infinite wisdom, stopped using the check stops (with breathalyzers) for the Christmas season as they didn’t want to offend the tourists 2) it is New Year’s eve so all the drunk people are out 3) we have a full moon! Okay, let’s just get on the busiest highway in Mexico, drive 45 minutes to a New Year’s Eve party! Actually most of the traffic was going south into the bay so we really didn’t have a lot of traffic to contend with and we had a guy ahead of us going a good speed so if anyone decided to pass going south and they couldn’t quite make it, they would crash into the car ahead of us (don’t laugh, Ross and I discussed this)! It is sad but true, I really can’t remember the trip back as I fell asleep almost instantly when I got into the car. We didn’t get home until after 4, then Ross decided he was hungry so he made some pork chops. I went to bed…………….we woke up a few times, to go pee (ok too much information (TMI)), get a drink, let the dogs out, get cat off my ear, eyeball, eyebrow, neck, listen to the dog fall off the bed…twice……….
We woke up, for good, at about 1:30 this afternoon, had coffee and really, really wanted to go back to bed, but we toughed it out playing on the computer, talking to family, sweeping and washing the floor (yuck) and stuff like that. We left around 5:30 for Ross to go to his meeting and me to take back the dress I bought for the wedding (Pam told me NO white but didn’t tell me NO tan) and see if I could find another. I got a refund for my tan dress (which is a feat in itself as Mexico does not like giving money back) without too much of a hassle (I only had to fill in an 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper) and I went searching for another. I went into another small shop and after picking out 10 dresses and none I could either find in my size or was the right colour, I picked out an olive green long dress with a silver shawl and purse to match (see pictures, don’t look at me………I look way too fat, need to lose some weight). I really hope she likes this one! I found another blue one, just what I was looking for but she only had it in medium, I took pictures so if Pam doesn’t like the green one I will see if I can get the blue one made.
Ross and I met back at the car (I succumbed to a Baskin Robbins ice cream cone (waffle to boot)) and Ross said that a bunch of the guys were meeting for dinner at a restaurant in Bucerias, did I want to go. I told him I wouldn’t be hungry but let’s go. We turned off the Centro exit and tried to get to where they told us the restaurant was. Now please understand that this is the high season and most of the roads in Centro are one way, now most Mexicans or tourists don’t read arrows so we had to wait several times in order for cars and or trucks to move because they were going the WRONG WAY! It probably took 3 times longer to get to where we were going than in low season. Oh well, that’s what happens when you live in a destination town. We were told the restaurant was on the beach at the very end of the road in Bucerias, so we drove most of the way and decided to park (cause of the traffic) Ross was backing up into a parking spot when the right back tire went into a hole, I looked and it looked really deep so we drove up a bit then parked. While walking back we saw the hole we went in, it actually was a break in a grate that was probably more than 8 feet long and the hole in the grate was maybe……5 feet or more down! We walked down to the end, couldn’t find it so we got back into the car, drove to the other side of the river, drove down there too, couldn’t find it, we gave up, came home, Ross warmed up turkey for supper, I called the kids, wrote my blog and munched on Pringles (don’t let me loose in a grocery store when I’m hungry (I stopped in at Sunset Market before meeting Ross in the Parking garage and before Baskin Robbins)).
Well, we are watching TV, I’m still typing the blog and we are pooped! I’m going to put the lid on the Pringles, finish the blog, watch a bit more TV then off to bed! After all, it’s laundry day tomorrow, wow!
Ross Kim and Critters in a very tired Paradise!
