Hi from Las Vegas, wow what a day! We got up at 6 this morning to a very dark morning. I don’t think we have gotten up this early yet. I stripped the bed for Jennifer and ``put my sheets and towels in the washer for Jenn to put in the dryer when she got to our place. I added some more instructions to my instruction sheet and Sue and Harold picked us up at 8 to take us to the airport. Because we were flying to the states we automatically assumed (silly us) we had to get to the airport a couple of hours earlier for the international flight, but we were flying to Mexico City then connecting to the states so it was a domestic flight and we didn’t need to be there that early. (No wonder why they weren’t busy at the gates!)
Our plane didn’t leave until 10:10 so we putzed around the airport until it was time to board (we have a really nice airport) we caught the flight and we didn’t realize that the seats we selected were at the very back of the plane, with no window, and we can’t put our seats back! We changed seats but ended up in front of the bulkhead so we still couldn’t put our seats back but at least we had a window. The flight was only a little over an hour anyway.
We had almost 4 hours (ended up being 5) before our next flight but we had to go to immigration first (we were told) so off we went following the signs. We ended up at the very other end of the airport and had to fill out a form to make sure we weren’t sick and another (not the tourist form) form cause we didn’t have our FM3’s. We got them filled out and stood in line and got to an immigration officer (please remember they fired almost all the immigrations officers Mexico) she was new and didn’t know what to do with our temporary FM3’s (they took them when we registered in the country we pick them up when we get back on Wednesday) and made us fill out a tourist card, Oh well, just as long as we get to where we are going. After we got through immigration we went through some thermal imaging to see if we had a temperature, how neat! We got through then needed to get to our gate; we took a wrong turn but got to where we were going after about 10 minutes of walking. Now by this time our feet hurt, I was frozen; I’m always cold on flights and airports, and I needed to buy something to keep me warm. (Just as a side bar, we walked by our gate going to immigration) We started up the hallway again to find something to keep me warm. I found a pretty white shawl for 300 pesos so we looked around a little more, and then ended up at our gate again. By this time the rain outside is just pouring down and the lightning was really close to the airport terminal so we ended up being delayed for an hour. Once on the plane (we got a good window seat) we watched some Mexican TV and a movie (Canadian Sandra Bullock bullies her assistant to marry her to stay in the states, I can’t remember the name of the show) and had a very good meal of chicken and rice (Ross) and pasta (me). They were even serving alcohol and I didn’t see any money change hands so I think it was part of the flight, wow, flashes of the good old days! Fly Mexicana when you come visit!
We finally got into Vegas, it was warm and dry. I copied the e-mail I received from Travelocity because we didn’t have a printer set up and just made a copy of the e-mail. Well, the transfer coupons were not printed so we had to pay for transportation to the hotel. I will have to find a printer to print the voucher to come home; we are told that Travelocity will reimburse us.
Everyone have a great day!
Ross and Kim in Vegas
