Wow, we didn’t know that the Golden Nugget was so big; we had only been in the casino. The swimming pool is on the top 10 pools in the world as listed by Forbes, it is in the middle of the hotel and the pool goes around a gigantic fish tankwith large sharks in it. They have a water slide that actually goes through the fish tank. We haven’t gone there yet, but it is definitely on our list of things to do before we leave.

After having breakfast at noon, at, wait for it, The Bay City Diner, we got back to the hotel and rented a car at Budget so we can do some shopping that was on our list. (Things we can’t get at home) We took off to a Wal-Mart on Sahara and Rainbow and spent a good hour filling our cart and checking things out. We had just gotten the kids birthday cards and were off to the till, and guess what; we were evacuated from Wal-Mart because of a bomb scare! We stayed around to see if they were going to open it back up soon (at that point we didn’t know why they evacuated us) and they made us leave the parking lot. So it’s back to Wallyworld to get the stuff that we had gotten today, tomorrow! We did get a cat door at Petco across the road, so it wasn’t a total loss.

We got back to the hotel and Ross got a hold of Fito de la Parra, the drummer of Canned Heat that he has idolized for almost 40 years (1970 when he saw him live, or was it 1969?????? It’s all a blur) and he will meet with us between sets to sign his autobiography about Canned Heat for Ross. Ross bought it from him on the Canned Heat website a couple of years ago and they talked a little by email. Ross is in seventh heaven right now, a tired seventh heaven. Fito happens to be staying in our hotel too! Go figure!

We took off to “You know where for supper……..Bay City Diner) and I had an open hot roast beef dinner and Ross had the hamburger and ½ of my roast beef. We were outside the barricades listening to the first set, when that was done Ross took off back stage to talk to Fito and came to me from the stage side of the barricades telling me that Fito has invited us into the green room, that’s kinda cool. So we met the band and were talking with them and then when the next set was about to start we left the green room and were standing by the stage. The stage manager told us that we needed credentials so she gave us…………………………are you ready……………………Band passes. We now have Canned Heat band passes! Wow. The second set kicked ass(Ross’ words) and Fito did a great solo. After the show we hung out in the green room with Fito and the others. He signed some girl’s bra and then signed the bra of an old friend of the bands, while she was wearing it! Fito’s ex wife Sheri and Fito signed a photo of their wedding in the book for Ross and then Fito signed the front of the book. He then asked Ross to take his personal email address and stay in touch. Wow again! Ross is just about ready to explode he’s so thrilled. They had to go sign autographs for the fans so we left after that.

We walked past the lounge on our way to our room and there was a great band playing, we stopped in to check them out and found out that most of them play with Air Supply and the lead singer of Air Supply was sitting in the crowd with a baseball hall of fame pitcher! Very cool! And a very hot band !

We are taking off to go get a bite to eat so I will say goodnight and hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Peace and Love from the Summer of ‘69
