Tuesday and Wednesday November 3rd and 4th, 2009

Wow do I have a story to tell you! First I have to say Happy Birthday to Sue, a wonderful friend and person!

Today started out like not one of our days we have ever had here………….ever. I set the alarm last night for 6:30 because this is the day we were going to Guadalajara to pick up our new dog Amarillo! Well I set the alarm and realized that my phone had not changed to standard time so rather that waking up at 6:30 we woke up at 5:30. We of course did not realize it until my darling husband looked at his watch and it was 6am and we had already had our first cup of coffee. Well, we figured this is ok; we will just start sooner and get there sooner (or have enough time to get lost and find our way we had to find the Guad airport) and get home sooner. We had a wonderful drive up, we have never been so once we left the 200 is was new territory. My sweetie and I saw 2 volcanos, one that was very old and had the actual column of lava and the other also old but looked awesome, we also saw a great canyon. But it was cold! We, of course had to have the top down on the car so here I sit with a blanket from head to toe……why????? Because it was frickin cold outside! We don’t normally get up that early and once you go inland it’s not as hot and it was way windy!

We got all the way (through 4 tolls which added up to (just wait until I get the calculator going on the computer) about $500 pesos! I was a very good road though, twin highway most of the way. We found the ring road (they told us not to go thru Guad centro) got to the airport and parked outside so that John (the guy that brought Amarillo from SAMM (Save a Mexican mutt)) could find us. As we were early we looked for a place to have lunch and the hotel on the property had a very nice restaurant, Ross had a cheese burger and I had a club sandwich (sometimes you get tired of tacos) and it was great. We were the only ones in the restaurant and got great service. We even got tacos with salsa to eat while we were waiting. We met John and got a look at our new son (I feel like a new Mum) and he is everything that the picture showed. He is so obedient, loving, quiet….. I could go on and on and on and on………….but I won’t (not until later). John said he was an excellent puppy on the way down (ok he’s 2 so he’s not a puppy……but he is to us) but he had to lift him up to get into his SUV because he just didn’t want to get in. Ross had to pick him up to put him in the Sunfire (Ross said he wasn’t as heavy as he looks). He got very comfy; however we had a bit of a problem…..

The man I am married to had paid the parking through a machine and got a receipt out for the payment, we went to leave the parking lot to go home and they wanted the original receipt……guess what ….Ross only had the receipt he got from the machine, he forgot to get the original receipt back from the machine and guess what………………they wouldn’t let us out of the parking lot without our original receipt. To make a very very very long story short we had to go to the lost ticket booth (it is actually called that) got another ticket (after paying whatever it was for the correct one) I had to pay 219 pesos plus, believe it or not, they asked for the registration of the car along with my driver’s license and they took a picture of them! The only reason I did it (as it was that man that screwed up) was that he forgot his reading glasses at home and couldn’t see what he was doing. This is the second parking ticket that got screwed up…..from now on I am in charge of the parking tickets!

We left Guadalajara, it is a beautiful afternoon when all of a sudden Ross exclaimed “Kim, there is a light on the dash what does it say”, because, again, he forgot his glasses, I had to look….it was the battery light…we thought, silly us, the rough roads had loosened the battery cables and all we needed to do was tighten them back up again. At the second toll booth we stopped at the Mechanico and he told us the battery was just fine….our alternator is DEAD! OK, we thought, the battery is good, let’s see if we can get home before we lose our power. At mile marker 50 was when our ABS light came on, then our airbag light came on then……………..we died! At mile marker 60. We phoned Ralph (a good friend that lives in Lo de Marcos) and asked him if he could either get us a fresh battery or come with his truck and boost us. As the man of the car had forgot his glasses he couldn’t see the battery and was absolutely certain that there should be a number on the battery, finally after a curt conversation he told Ralph what it looked like and to see what he could do.

After about 15 – 20 minutes guess who came to our rescue? The Green Angels. This is a service all over Mexico where trucks roam the highways looking for people who need help, cool heh! He used his industrial size battery to charge us up after we got back onto the highway I called Ralph to let him know we were on our way, he waited for us then followed us to Lo de Marcos to his house to charge up the battery again before the 45 minute trip to Bucerias. We were also trying to get home before dark as it is a mountain road and to drive it without lights is very dangerous (just the Mexicans) so the man I married decided after about 15 minutes of charging at Ralph’s house that would be all we would need to get home and still beat the sunset, well…………….after about 10 minutes on the road, we stopped dead on the highway, we were just lucky that there was a turn out where the car stopped.

My other half tried to call Ralph but his cell was out of range,so I tried calling Christie (because I didn’t have Ralph’s phone number in my phone) to see if mine was working. My phone rang a couple of times so he made me hang up to try Ralph on my phone “because this is an emergency”. I ended up getting some Spanish message so I called Christie back and had to apologize for hanging up on her and ask her to see if she could call Ralph for us to see if he could come rescue us. A pretty pissed off Ralph came and boosted us enough to get the roof and the windows up and back the car off the highway a safer distance to leave it. Ralph drove us home and stayed for a bit (we paid him 500 pesos for his time and gas) and he had a couple of beer.
Amarillo is an absolute gem we renamed him Buddy because the man I live with has always wanted a dog with that name. He is so quiet and obedient, we still haven’t heard him bark and it’s already Wednesday after 6pm.

I had to get up at 7:30 to be ready for Christy to pick me up at 9:15 for our property tour. It is beautiful out at that time in the morning, 22 degrees and a bit of a breeze blowing, god I love it here. We all met at Christie’s house and we went to see some properties. We saw a really fancy suite in a development that is just in the construction stage, I think it was 3 bedrooms and I believe it was worth 350,000 US but don’t quote me. We saw another compound, wow!, is all I can say. It is in La Cruz just off the lateral and is a huge property with 5 garages and 2 separate houses with a party place between them and it’s only 479,000 US. It would make a great family compound as long as you loved your family, tee hee! We saw another fabulous condo 2 blocks from the beach for only 200,000 – 250,000 it is sooooooo cute and the patio was really big and it had a beautiful pool. Don’t quote me on those prices I didn’t get much sleep last night and had to get up early so my memory is kinda mush. We went out for lunch in La Cruz at a fish taco place and I had the best avocado and shrimp salad I think I’ve ever had. I brought ½ home and Ross ate the balance. It was 140 pesos, but worth every pesos!

We needed to get some flea medication for Buddy so we quickly drove over to Wallyworld for some then came back and now we are watching Criminal Minds and I am trying to finish this before next year. The mechanic that Sue and Harold told us about will be over around noon tomorrow to take the car to fix the alternator, and Ross has to find a way to get to Lo de Marcos for his gig and we have an art walk tomorrow night that I’m supposed to be at. The saga continues………………………
